ATMA Receives International Honour for Tyre Safety Awareness
New Delhi [India], August 13: Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) has received a special recognition award at the hands of UK-based tyre safety charity TyreSafe at its annual briefing. It is the first event that TyreSafe is implementing an international award, which highlights the global recognition of the ATMA in tyre safety initiative.
Dwelling upon the award mentioning, TyreSafe reported on their Special Recognition award given by ATMA India, which is the testimony to their deep commitment and creativity to tyre safety. They have trained over 20,000 people, checked over 30,000 tyres and motivated the next generation of road safety champions through their successful Ideathons program, which identifies them and brings them into line with the vision of TyreSafe to have safer roads across the world.
With TyreSafe, we are most proud that ATMA has been acknowledged in tyre safety. This award highlights our effort of raising the level of publicity and promoting responsible tyre care by interacting with motorists and institutional collaborations. We carry forward with our common vision of ensuring that roads are safer in India" said Mr. Arun Mammen, Chairman, ATMA.
This endorsement of TyreSafe confirms our long-stretching grassroots campaign: through petrol pump tyre clinics and university workshops, through Ideathons and expressway campaigns. Training more than 20,000 individuals and examining 30,000 tyres is only the start. We will continue to amplify our message: tyre care is not only important to the performance of a vehicle but also to saving human lives" said Mr. Sudershan Gusain, Head - Tyre Safety Awareness, ATMA/ITTAC.
Over the years, ATMA has established a broad range of tyre safety activities such as:
National outreach: ATMA along with its technical body Indian Tyre Technical Advisory Committee (ITTAC) has been conducting public awareness on tyre safety in a much more proactive way (Over 200+ tyre safety activations); through roadside tyre clinics and petrol pump check-up areas, school workshops and university drives in the recent years. It reached more than 20000 people such as motorists, commercial drivers, students, and public service officials during this period.
Institutional partnerships: There were more than 1000 tanker drivers in various states with Indian Oil Corporation, who enrolled into comprehensive training on tyre maintenance. Like programs were conducted with various state government transport departments and road transport bodies.
Educational outreach programs, Ideathons: School Connect programs were carried out to about 10,000 school pupils, and college level Ideathons, such as those organized at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, provided youth with exposure to new road safety ideas The 2025 edition included new ideas, like the Tyre Safety Ring, which was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
Expressway campaigns: ATMA/ITTAC engineers conducted a tyre test of more than 2,000 vehicles on the Samruddhi Mahamarg and Yamuna Expressway, handing out safety booklets and awareness handouts.
Ongoing industry-based education: ATMA and ITTAC also host webinars, animation films, social-media campaigns and signage material. They facilitate with such publications as the ITTAC Standards Manual and Tyre Condition guides.
At a time when India still deals with the problem of road safety, ATMA and ITTAC are committed to expanding advocacy of tyres and road safety. ATMA encourages vehicle users, academic institutions, transport authorities and the policy makers to consider this growing movement.
ATMA, backed by member companies--Apollo, Bridgestone, CEAT, JK Tyre, MRF--is determined to collaborate with state and central governmental agencies in terms of making tyres be accepted not just as a mechanical system, but as a life-safety system.
