London [UK], June 15 (ANI): On Saturday (local time), football legend David Beckham has officially been awarded with a Knighthood by King Charles II in recognition of his exceptional contribution to both sport and charity.

Sir David Beckham is the former Manchester United and England captain, and this title suits a person who is one of the most influential and the most popular football players of all the time.

Beckham is widely considered to be one of the greatest midfielders to have ever played in the history of the game and had an exemplary career playing in some of the best clubs and on different continents. He was a football player with the world-renowned football clubs that include Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and LA Galaxy behind him, leaving a legacy of greatness.

Internationally, Beckham scored 17 goals in 115 England appearances between the year 1996 and the year 2009 and captained his country in many memorable occasions.

He has a silverware career in his club. Beckham spent the golden age of his career at Manchester United and his contribution in 265 Premier League matches with 62 goals earned him a prominent spot in the history of the club.

Beckham subsequently transferred to Real Madrid where he scored 116 goals and played 13 games. This led him to play in the United States where he was taken by LA Galaxy where he played 18 goals in 98 games.

Beckham later joined AC Milan and had 29 appearances and 2 goals with the club and later finished his playing career at Paris Saint-Germain.

Since 2005 he has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Beckham was in India, and observed the semifinal between India and New Zealand on November 15 in Mumbai at the Men Cricket World Cup. He mingled with the cricketing superstars such as Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. (ANI)
