"Overwhelmed, humbled": Yuvraj Singh thanks cricketing legends for attending YouWeCan charity event in London

Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata celebrate Mother Teresa's 115th birth anniversary:

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 26 (ANI): Mass prayers were recited on Tuesday at the House of the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata on the occasion of the 115 th birthday of Mother Teresa.

Thomas D’Souza, the Archbishop of Calcutta who was paying homage to Mother Teresa said that she taught that there should be a message to encourage life and any harm or violence contrary to that is not right.

The Archbishop asserted the value and sacredness of life, as a result of which war, conflict and violence do not exist.

During the event, Yuvraj talked to ANI about the historic Indian victory, the first in their history, by 336 runs at Edgbaston in Test 2 and the prodigal run at four by skipper Shubman Gill.

The message is what Mother Teresa was about, she advocated life and hence any injury, violence contrary to life is bad. Life is sacred, is holy and thus war, conflict and violence that kills life is not warranted. We should safeguard life throughout and should encourage life with happiness since we are all God children, Thomas D Sousa said to ANI.

Missionaries of Charity (also known as Missionaries of Charity of St. Theresa) is a Catholic Church religious community established by Mother Teresa of Kolkata (now St. Theresa of Kolkata) in the year 1950. The community is devoted to serving the poorest of the poor regardless of the social class, creed or colour. It is credited with its contribution to the welfare of a few of the marginalised members of the society such as orphans, abandoned children and the elderly people and individuals with disabilities.

The Missionaries of Charity members lit candles and recited prayers during the day when the Mother was born. Agnes Gonxha better known as Mother Teresa was born on August 26, 1910. Her family was from Albania. In October 1950, the Vatican allowed Mother Teresa to begin The Missionaries of Charity, whose work majorly focused on loving and caring to the abandoned ones. The order began operations in Kolkata.

All over the world, the Society of Missionaries of Charity then dispersed. They assist the poorest of the poor in various countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America and engage in relief efforts following natural disasters like floods and epidemics as well as refugees.

In 1979, Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize. She requested the jury to donate the prize money to assist the poor in India. In September 2017, the Pope made Mother Teresa a Patron Saint of Archdiocese of Kolkata (then Calcutta) due to her unselfish service in the aid of the underprivileged. In 1997, when Mother Teresa died the government gave her a state funeral after she served the poor.
