Tata Sons completes registration of public charitable fund dedicated to victims of AI 171 crash

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 18 (ANI): On Friday, Tata Sons registered and finalized a trust and a public charitable trust in Mumbai. It will be titled as The AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust in memory of the victims of the unfortunate accident which took place in Ahmedabad with the Air India flight AI-171.

The Trust will give immediate and long-term assistance to dependents or next-of-kin of the deceased, to those who were injured, and to everyone who is directly or indirectly injured in the accident.

The Trust will also assist in the recovery and support any trauma and distress, which the first responders, medical and disaster relief professionals, social workers and governmental staff that were instrumental in the provision of invaluable institutional support and service in the post-accident response.

Tata Sons and Tata Trusts have undertaken to provide a donation of Rs. 500 crores with both contributing their share of contribution (250 crores each) to the Trust philanthropic objects which will include ex-gratia payment of Rs 1 crore to individuals who have been killed or severely injured and assists in the rebuilding of the BJ. Infrastructure that was destroyed in the accident is medical college hostel infrastructure.

A Board of Trustees of 5 members will manage and administer the Trust. S Padmanabhan who is a former Tata veteran and Sidharth Sharma, the General Counsel of Tata Sons have been appointed the first two trustees to the Board. Other trustees will be stated soon.

The Trust will receive the money and will take the first steps in all seriousness when it is registered with the Tax authorities and other formalities in its working, which is in the process.

Previously, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) India urged media houses vehemently not to report on speculative and unsubstantiated matters regarding the recent crash of the Air India Flight 171, especially on sensitive matters like mental health or unverified reports of negligence of the crew.

A call was made by ALPA India to the media not to replicate unverified theories on the Air India Flight 171 accident, particularly on delicate issues.

ALPA India stated, "We at ALPA India earnestly and desperately request all media houses and news reporters to avoid promoting unconfirmed and hypothetical theories about the tragic crash of AI 171, particularly those involving delicate issues like mental health, suicide, or blaming the flight crew without any factual or investigative support to back their statements up (ANI)
